Groove Review

Thu, 13 Nov 2008 06:42:35

Microsoft Groove 2007 can automatically synchronise your data with another computer whilst you’re online. I just want to focus on the Groove client which can work ad-hoc. There is also a server version of Groove which is not required to achieve online replication.

How it works

  1. You install the client on two computers which are connected to the internet
  2. Create a workspace within Groove to manage your files
  3. When any changes are made, Groove automatically replicates them to your other computer

They’re the good aspects of Groove. The bad are, you have to buy it and it’s really difficult to troubleshoot connection issues. I’d take this software if you’re company offer it to you, but I’d not spend my own hard earned cash on it just yet. Please be aware this is not Grooves only functionality, it also acts as a messenger client and much more, but I wanted to concentrate on replication functionality.

Delete duplicate outlook contacts

Tue, 17 Jul 2007 08:29:14

Ended up with duplicate contact entries due to active sync? Yes, me too. I ended up with three entries per person on my phone which was exciting. Despite the excitement I decided it was time to resolve. Fire up Outlook and arrange your contacts by "date created". You will find all the duplicates were created on a specific date. In my case I had two days in which all my contacts were duplicated. Select the duplications, hit the delete key and then resync your phone, this should remove all the duplicate entries off your phone without and need for 3rd party software.

Vista Dual Boot

Wed, 13 Jun 2007 18:12:47

Yesterday I installed XP on a second hard drive. XP edited the MBR which meant I could no longer boot into Vista. I thought I was in for a long day troubleshooting. First things first, I put in the Vista disk, selected recovery, asked it to repair my startup, voila! Vista booted but now I needed to setup the dual boot menu and I was sure this was going to give me grief. I read about VistaBootPRO and thought it must either be spyware, mailware or just not work. To my surprise it was free, clean and worked a dream. With all systems go I was happy to be back up a running within 20 minutes of my first issue which I thought was going to take me all day to resolve.

Disable Balloon Tips

Bottom right hand corner of your Windows desktop, 'balloon tips'. They are as annoying as the paper-clip that use to be in Microsoft word. I just had to find out how to disable them, as they provide me with no information worth knowing. Here we detail which area of the registry you need to change.
